Summer Camp 2008

Summer Camp 2008 is full with waiting lists. June 2-6 is a week called "World Traveler". We will visit a different country each day, and get our passports stamped. What fun we will have as we circle the globe without leaving Haymarket!! June 9-13 is "Down on the Farm" week. We will make butter, have a visit with live farm animals, plant veggies and flowers and make lots of crafts! A great time ahead!

If you are enrolled, here is what you need to know:
*Camp begins promptly at 9 am. Pick up at noon, with late fee policies in effect, just like during the regular school year.
*Kiss and Ride/Carpool Line will be open at 8:55am. Please remember to have your carpool tags ready for pick up time if you use the line, just like during the school year. Even though we have added the Kiss and Ride this year for Summer Camp, please try to come in atleast one time to see all the fun decorations and projects for the week!
* Children need to bring backpacks daily to take home summer projects.
* Play clothes are essential, as we will be doing many outdoor activities, and lots of painting and messy art. Remember that sandals and crocs are not allowed at school. Tennis shoes provide the best support and safety on our playgrounds.
* If we have very hot days, we may set up sprinklers and ask you to bring in a towel or a swim suit.
*Please check the backpack each day for any changes in the schedule or anything that needs to be brought in for something special the following day.

**Class lists are posted on the office door. Check to see which room your child is in. Most children returned to their school year teacher.

Special, peanut free snacks are provided each day to go with the theme of the day and week.

Around the World Week is lots of fun! We traveled to a different country every day... our opening assembly took place in the 'big room' which looked like a giant airplane inside! Mrs. Goff was our captain. We enjoyed stories and songs...we got a little wet with a spray bottle of water...we tossed a giant world around and sang about the big, blue ball...our world. In Mexico, we broke open a pinata, we made our own tortillas, we made sombreros and danced and sang with maracas. In Italy we painted a still life of a bowl of fruit, we made a pasta collage, listened to Italian music while we ate mini pizzas! In Germany we saw lots of cool things, like a cuckoo clock from the Black Forest, German books and dolls and we ate Bavarian pretzels for snack. We dressed our gingerbread boys and girls up like like German children, with lederhosen and dirndls. In Australia we made boomerangs, ate 'lambingtons', practiced Aussie words, like G'day, Mate! We learned about Australian animals with the assistance of puppets. In China we played in big bins of rice, we made Chinese lanterns, listened to Chinese music all morning, we also enjoyed learning about pandas. In Kenya we went on a safari and had to rescue our snack from the monkeys who tried to steal our bananas. We played Kenyan drums, made a collage and animal masks, too. We read some great stories about life in Kenya.

Mrs. Lawler dressed in fabric from Kenya, children painted still life masterpieces, while in Kenya the children had their photos taken with some wild animals!

Mrs. Goff's class tries to break open their pinata while in Mexico, Mrs. Stettler's class made homemade tortillas and con queso during their visit to Mexico, and Mrs. Wilkens class works on their passports while in Australia.

We enjoyed making our own passports and suitcases...what a fun adventure!
